Schema Markup – What It Is & How It Helps

What In Tarnation Is Schema Markup?

That really is the question now isn’t it.  If you’re like most non-seo people out there you’re probably scratching your head a bit, and that’s okay.  The simple answer (if there is such a thing) is Schema Markup is a sort of Search Engine code developed to tell Google and other search providers a lot of in depth information about you or your business.

Before We Run We Must All Crawl

Before your website gets indexed on a search engine (or even after) Google and the other guys crawl your website for information.  They check out all the pages they have access to, scan all the data and content, do some grading and “Viola” your website can now show up on relevant searches.

Moving on, That’s the key too,  to show up on relevant searches.  And that’s exactly what your Schema Markup should be doing for you.  You see, this weird code is a basic yet fundamental part of any good SEO strategy that helps get your website listed and shown to all those looking for you or your business.  Schema is the “Who, What, Where, Why, How Much” and so on, data that all search engines should know.  Here’s a picture of what it looks like:

What Are The Benefits Of Schema Markup?

There are a lot of benefits, to name a few:

  • Increased search engine presence
  • More organic traffic
  • Higher engagement
  • Offers quick information to all those searching for you
  • Helps establish your business information
  • Increased transparency

Of course there are more, but those are some of the key benefits.  When we develop a website we ensure that website’s Schema Markup is pristine, allowing search engines easy access to every bit of information about your business or profession.  Without this information your website won’t rank or appear as well in search engines which we don’t have to tell you doesn’t at all help.

Lastly, Schema is so important Google has even created a cool tool to help you determine if your website’s schema is working or exists at all.
